1963 Corvette Convertible Rare Back Up Lamps Numbers Match
I am excited to offer this very rare optioned 1963 Corvette Convertible.
If you are viewing the pictures, your eyes are not playing tricks on you.
There are 6 rear tail lights.
This car came optioned from the factory with very rare backup lamps (Option T86)
and then the owner had the dealer install the additional 2 red lamps
known as the California Custom Option (more about that later).
This is a very nice survivor/unmolested example
in a rare color combination of Daytona Blue with Dark Blue Interior.
The car was originally delivered new by Giant Chevrolet in Vasalia, California.
It was sold by the first owner in 1965 and it stayed in the new owners family
until 2003 when the current owner purchased it.
There is registration paperwork going back to 1963 showing that this car
stayed in California until 2003.
It has only traveled 71,500 miles since new.
This '63 Vette is highlighted by its original lacquer paint, original interior
and #'s matching drive train.
It also includes 2 sets of wheels and tires:
* One set with the original hubcaps (white wall tires are brand new)
* One set with American Racing Torque Thrust II wheels
with Bridgestone tires (17" rear, 16" front).
These tires only have approx. 200 miles on them.
Why is this Car So Rare?
From a color standpoint, 1963 was the only year
that Daytona Blue was offered on the Corvette.
From an option standpoint,
this car came from the factory with option T86 Backup Lamps
of which only 318 were ordered with that option.
Prior to delivery, the original owner had the dealer install
the "California Custom Option".
This involved the dealer adding 2 additional red lamps on the rear
and it was only available to factory Backup Lamps cars
and can only have been installed in California.
The California Custom Option could only have been dealer installed
prior to initial delivery.
It could not have been retrofitted.
