This is a lovely Antique Silver Cased Spoon & Fork which carry hallmarks for Sheffield 1895 & 1897 and makers marks of H.W.Ld.
This set is also extra special as it comes with letters relating to this set setting out some history and sent between family members, and signed by a J Mainwaring Hall. It also comes with a beautiful hanky (which quite possibly is silk) which has intertwining letters embroidered on it, but I am afraid that I cannot make them out.
Going back to the actual set both the spoon and the fork have lovely floral decorated handles and both still have an oval blank cartouche. The Fork measures approximately 6 inches long and the spoon measures just under 6 inches long. Both are in very good condition.
They come complete in their original torquoise lined case which is in good condition inside but the outside is a little worn and the hinges at the back keeping both parts together have broken and at the moment the box is being held together by some tape, but I am sure that this could be easily rectified. This beautiful little set being 111 years old would make a lovely Christening Set for a very special person that could be handed down through the generations and with the provenance that comes with this set makes it very special. A super set and not to be missed.
