All riders at these class levels, will work for a secure, balanced, and relaxed position on the horse. Students are taught to maintain their position on the horse by balance, not grip. This centered, classical position is universally correct for all disciplines, with only minor adjustments as the rider advances to more specific disciplines such as jumping, western, or dressage. Beginning students are taught in an english saddle as it requires a better balance from the rider than a typical western saddle, however, the principles learned are very applicable to correct western riding. Riders will be taught effective use of their aids (control of the horse). Students are expected (once taught) to groom and tack their own horse. Horsemanship skills and basic horse care are a big part of the learning experience. Students will learn to lead, groom, tack, feed, care for, catch and work safely around the horse. Riders will enjoy a wide variety of horse activities in order that they may become well rounded riders. They will ride outside, on trail, over ground poles and crossrails, play games and do gymkhana.
