The match started cautiously with both sides waiting to see what would unfold and for a while there it looked to be heading towards a very tedious affair until Wes Brown produced a very good cross and Cristiano Ronaldo leapt over Michael Essien to put United in front.
Then took over the match and really should have put the game out of sight but for poor finishing and anticipation by Carlos Tevez, who had been poor in the 1st half.
He 1st of all missed a very good chance carved out by Wayne Rooney’s winning off the ball from Ricardo Carvalho in his own half and playing a very good cross field pass to Ronaldo, whose cross was met by Tevez but his header was too close to Petr Cech, who produced a very good save.
The rebound fell to Michael Carrick and his shot was a very good height for Cech but his double save was very good nevertheless. Then Tevez failed to anticipate Rooney’s cross and was inches away from connecting.
