POSITIONS:
DEPUTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY – DISTRICT COURT

STARTING SALARY: Negotiable

JOB SUMMARY:
Under policies and procedures established by the 13th Judicial District Attorney, prosecutes criminal offenses for the State of Colorado and for the 13th Judicial District (Including the counties of Morgan, Logan, Kit Carson, Sedgwick, Phillips, Washington and Yuma)

DUTIES INCLUDE:
Prosecutes criminal offenses in the District.
Represents the State at hearings, arraignments, entry of plea, orders to show cause, waiver hearings, pretrial conferences, preliminary hearings, trials, misdemeanor appeals, and court calendars and fills in for other attorneys as needed.
Evaluates cases under investigation by police agencies regarding the existence, nature, and degree of offenses.
Evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of the prosecution’s case and prepares cases for presentation in court.
Performs legal research and prepares written pleadings and memoranda for each case.

EVALUATION AND SELECTION FACTORS INCLUDE:
Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities.
Knowledge of litigation proceedings including Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules of Evidence, Rules of Criminal Procedure, Rules of Juvenile Procedure, Rules of Appellate Procedure, and the Criminal Code.
Skill in litigation and trial advocacy.
Skill in conducting legal research.
Skill in legal writing including legal briefs and memos.

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT:

Equivalent to a J.D. degree from an accredited law school; and one (1) year work experience as a criminal justice attorney. A graduate degree in public administration or another appropriate graduate degree, or professional work experience after bar certification in a field that closely relates to the incumbent's work assignment, may be substituted for one (1) year of legal experience.
Applicants receiving a conditional offer of employment will be required to show an original social security card and drivers license and submit to a pre-employment background check as required.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION
Incumbent must possess valid membership in the Colorado State Bar Association and in the Federal Bar Association for Colorado; and Incumbent must successfully complete mandatory continuing legal education (CLE) training every two (2) years.
