Framed Glass Plate Drawing of Circulatory System Detail(25”Wx33”H)
This is an original drawing on glass of the circulatory system by Pauline Lariviere. The photographic plate was made in the 1930’s. Its purpose was to produce large format (44”x72”) Human Anatomy Charts for the Denoyer-Geppert Company.
To-date research on the illustrator suggests that she was a student of Max Brodel, graduating from the Johns Hopkins Medical Illustration program in the 1930s. This full figure study is more than simply a diagram of a body: it is a serene three-dimensional perspective presented in a contemplative form.
I do not know the process used to create the image or to create the photograph, though I do believe this plate to be an original. Printed images from this and other plates may be seen in the Denoyer-Geppert International catalog for 1999-2000, pages 86 and 87.
