This is a cased Edwardian Solid Silver Christening Set comprising of a Fork and Spoon, carrying hallmarks for Sheffield 1905 and Makers Marks of JR. They are of a Fiddle and Thread design and both the fork and the spoon measure just under 6 inches long are of quite a good size.
Unfortunately it looks as if the child who owned this might have literally been born with a silver spoon in it's mouth, as the spoon does have dents in it where the child might have used it as a teething aid, or impatient for its dinner, by banging it, but at least there are signs of use, and it has not just been kept in a box looking pretty!!!!
The box is also in a bit of a state outside, especially the underneath and the clasp does need adjusting. I have probably been over critical but I do like to point out any imperfections so bidders know what they are bidding on, but nonetheless, this is still a very nice set now 100 years old so an ideal Christening present for any baby born this year in 2005. It is also free of any engravings so could be personalised to give as a very special present and will certainly appreciate in value.
