VoIP Phone Telephony - An Introduction
What is VoIP?
You may be familiar with NetMeeting and other software that let you talk to others over the internet. VoIP is somewhat similar, except it also makes use of your phone - hence VoIP phone telephony.
With VoIP phone telephony, instead of plugging your phone into the socket in the wall, you connect it to a box. This box could either be provided by the VoIP company you use, or you can buy it yourself. This is the VoIP modem.
The VoIP modem plugs into your cable/dsl modem. (ideally, you need high speed broadband internet for VoIP)
In summary, you simply plug the VoIP modem between your current cable/dsl modem and your computer. Therefore, the out from your cable modem now goes to the new VoIP modem box. The out from VoIP modem box goes to your computer. This box also has a phone jack for your regular phone.
There are many benefits of VoIP phone telephony.
