The original project name was supposed to be REVOLUTION, as in creating a revolution in the video game industry, however Nintendo execs decided on Wii because it sounds like "We" to emphasis family, group-oriented gaming. Also, it is said that the meaning for the english word for WE (hence Wii) has the same meaning and similar sound in other languages.
